This is a beautiful "Fractal Tree" lightning sand fulgurite with multiple arms. It has a prominent hole at the top with a black tip and another hole offset, below the top. Most fulgurite lightning sand this small is ever recovered as it is fragile and rarely found. This type is the "rarest of the rare," in fulgurites as it is predominantly a pristine white with black colored highlights.
Fulgurite lightning sand is made by a bolt of lightning piercing the sand and as it grounds it way into the earth a hollow, glass-lined tube is formed. Most fulgurite lightning tubes found are either straight, bent, zig-zag or left. Few have multiple fusions like this one that formed actual "fractal tree" looking natural art.
This is the real stuff talked about in the Hollywood Movie "Sweet Home, Alabama."
